چکیده
The research into insulating ferrimagnetic garnets has gained enormous momentum in the past decade. This is partly due to improvement techniques grow high-quality ultrathin films with desirable properties and advances understanding spin transport within through their interfaces conducting materials. In recent years, we have seen remarkable progress controlling magnetization state of by electrical means suitable heterostructures device architectures. These readily placed a favorable position for future development spintronic concepts. purpose this article review experimental results current-induced control associated phenomena garnets, as well discuss directions rapidly evolving area spintronics.

Temperature dependence of current-induced magnetization switching in spin valves with a ferrimagnetic CoGd free layer.
The temperature dependence of current-induced magnetization switching of ferrimagnetic CoGd free layers in spin valves is explored. At temperatures well above and well below the magnetization compensation temperature (T(MC)) of CoGd, a current flowing from the free layer to the CoFe fixed layer aligns the moments of the two layers parallel, and a current flowing in the opposite direction aligns...
متن کاملCurrent-induced magnetization switching using an electrically insulating spin-torque generator
Current-induced magnetization switching through spin-orbit torques is the fundamental building block of spin-orbitronics, which promises high-performance, low-power memory and logic devices. The spin-orbit torques generally arise from spin-orbit coupling of heavy metals. However, even in a heterostructure where a metallic magnet is sandwiched by two different insulators, a nonzero spin-orbit to...
متن کاملSubpicosecond magnetization reversal across ferrimagnetic compensation points.
Subpicosecond magnetization reversal is experimentally demonstrated by ultrafast heating of a ferrimagnet across its compensation points, under an applied magnetic field. While the reversal is initiated by crossing the magnetization compensation temperature, the short reversal time is related to the angular momentum compensation, where the dynamics of the system is highly accelerated owing to t...
متن کاملCurrent-induced magnetization dynamics in disordered itinerant ferromagnets
Current-driven magnetization dynamics in ferromagnetic metals is studied in a self-consistent adiabatic local-density approximation in the presence of spin-conserving and spin-dephasing impurity scattering. Based on a quantum kinetic equation, we derive Gilbert damping and spin-transfer torques entering the LandauLifshitz equation to linear order in frequency and wave vector. Gilbert damping an...
متن کاملCurrent-induced magnetization reversal in terms of power dissipation
Magnetization excitation and reversal induced by spin-transfer torques is described in terms of power received or dissipated in a macrospin system. This approach provides a clear and intuitive understanding of the effect of both applied magnetic fields and injected spin-polarized currents on magnetization reversal. It is illustrated by solving the case of magnetization reversal in a nanopillar ...
